Program hosts Easter barbecue for clients and their kids

The hunt was on for brightly dyed
eggs of all hues during the
program's April 8 pre-Easter
party for clients and their children.

OPTIONS FOR RECOVERY TRANSITIONAL EASTER 2009
Easter came early for the clients and their children in residence at the Transitional Housing Program for Parenting Women, as case manager/counselor Nina Iglecias hosted a mid-week barbecue that included gift baskets and an Easter egg hunt for the kids, and egg-toss and limbo contests for everyone.

The sun was bright, and the smiles were wide for the April 8 event, as toddlers to teens scoured the property's foliage for brightly colored shells filled with treats.

As tricky as finding some of the eggs proved to be, much harder was staying yolk-free during the egg toss – a first-time activity for many of the children in residence.

But fueled by a barbecue lunch and Easter candy, the kids easily out-limboed their moms, showing off their youthful flexibility as their backs practically went parallel with the ground. A "Hokey Pokey" race also gave the children an opportunity to show off their athletic prowess as the crossed the property's expansive lawn.

It was unclear who enjoyed it more, the little kids or the "big kids."
